Who’s ready for a long weekend? Motorola CLIQ 2 Unboxing by Aaron Aaron does an unboxing review of the Motorola CLIQ 2, T-Mobile’s newest Android device and the first CES phone to hit the market. It packs a 1 GHz processor, 3.7-inch display, 5-megapixel camera, and Android 2.2. If you thought the CLIQ 2 would be anything like the original device, think again – it’s like night and day. Build quality is much better, the 3.7-inch display is awesome, the physical keyboard is an improvement, and Android 2.2 out of the box is a nice touch. CLIQ XT 2.1 Delayed, Again

File this in my “shocked” drawer. Motorola needs to do some “additional testing” before it can make its CLIQ XT users less outdated. And that’s not even the worst of it: For those of you suckered into buying this device through Walmart’s Straight Talk, you can simply forget dreams of Eclairs altogether.

But don’t take my word for it, pop over to Motorola’s Software Upgrade page and have a gander for yourself, lines three and four.

They might as well either release it OTW as is and say “take it, but it isn’t ready. And we’re done” or “We lied and had no intention of ever making Eclair, please don’t hate us. Look, Honeycomb!”.

Motorola CLIQ Eclair Upgrade Available for All

We originally heard it’d be here mid-November, and Motorola started seeking out testers late October for the update, but Motorola CLIQ users all across the country can now download the upgrade to Android 2.1 for their smartphones. You need to do it manually, however, so make sure you go to Motorola’s site to download the file needed and head over to their installation page for detailed step-by-step instructions. Motorola and T-Mobile Seeking Testers for CLIQ Android 2.1 Release

Motorola and T-Mobile are looking for 2,000 CLIQ owners to beta test the much-anticipated Android 2.1 (Eclair) release for the handset. This should come as a relief to many owners clamoring for the update, and goes right along with reports that the final release will take place right around mid-November. If you want a chance to be one of the lucky few all you need to do is head on over to this link, provide some info, and sit back with fingers crossed that you will be among those selected. We’d suggest every CLIQ owner does this, as the history going along with this update suggests this may be your only chance to get it. I kid, I kid. All CLIQ owners should sleep easier knowing this one is right around the corner.

Motorola CLIQ Getting Android 2.1 Mid-November?

Yes, you’ve heard this one before, but bear with me: new evidence suggests T-Mobile will be pushing out the upgrade to Android 2.1 for Motorola CLIQ users soon. It’s been a long time coming, and – by now – everyone’s more concerned about Froyo than they are Eclair, but those faithful CLIQ owners with T-Mobile will finally be able to use a lot of the newer features many Android users have been enjoying for a while.

These include a new version of the Android market, speech-to-text, and more. Essentially, most of you just want those 2.1+ exclusive apps, and you’ll finally be able to get those. The internal document leaked by TmoNews suggests training will start November 7th. If we assume training only takes a week to complete (like most products), then we could be seeing this update start to roll out sometime in the middle of next month.

Keep holding on, guys. We’re getting there.

Maintenance Update Rolling Out for Motorola Cliq XT on T-Mobile

A maintenance update is currently rolling out for the Motorola Cliq XT. It goes without saying that this ISN’T a move up to Android 2.1, but rather a series of bug fixes and enhancements to help improve stability and overall phone performance and speed. Also eliminated are bugs for erroneous notifications that a message has not been sent and Bluetooth connectivity issues. The update is topped off with the latest version of Swype. Oh, and about that 2.1 update: Moto is still holding to the quoted Q4 date for its delivery. Fingers crossed.

Motorola Begonio Will Launch November 1st as the CLIQ 2?

T-Mobile hasn’t fallen off the MOTOBLUR train yet, it seems. Engadget’s been tipped with some information regarding a supposed Motorola CLIQ 2 – codenamed Begonia (don’t ask because I don’t know either) – that will come with Android 2.2 and BLUR. It comes with WiFi calling, 3G hotspot support (something G2 owners won’t have) and will equip its user with a decent keyboard. We could be headed for a November 1st launch if their tipster is to be trusted, but I wouldn’t mark the day on my calendar (unless you’re actively counting down the days to Thanksgiving and Black Friday. If you’re anything like me, you celebrate every day before the celebration. Don’t judge me.)
