Kevin Packingham, product development lead at Sprint, is planning to part ways with the carrier come Monday for an unidentified Kansas City company, says an article in the Wall Street Journal. You are probably intimately familiar with some of Packingham’s work, as he headed up development on Sprint’s first 4G phone, the HTC EVO, as well as their upcoming Samsung Epic 4G. His departure is oddly timed with the release of that device, as part of his role also involved demonstrating and talking up product launches at media events and conferences.

A replacement has yet to be named, but with the help of Packingham Sprint landed two pretty stellar handsets, so let’s hope whoever takes over the reigns is equally as ambitious in their Android goals.

Hopefully this won’t affect the future of the Evo and Epic!
